People would never wait in line, for example. Walmart fills a niche, Costco fills a niche, and all other stores attempt to offer unique items and atmosphere. It's all goign to be okay. Most will shop where it is most convienent...i.e. the "Convience store". Meanwhile, a free market approach means we believe in the Darwinistic attitude that only the strong survive and thus, the consumer will be the one who ultimely benefits. I agree with this letter writer: We need the right to shop where we want, and don't need a city council to dictate. Further, it could bring in added revenue being off the freeway in since other stores are closing. Finally, if you don't want to buy Chinese, and the demand is there, open up a MADE IS USA store-- bring the manufactoring jobs back! Perhaps when the good-ole-boy beer buddies dry out a little they can come up with some good ideas to fix the problems of this nation rather than worrying about the price of their brew. And I have nothing at all against people who have an occasional beer. Also, Long John Silver's wasn't taxed out of existence by the city. The place was a dirty health hazzard and should have closed down years before they actually did. In fact I was surprized the city didn't do it before they left and I actually like that type of food. But I couldn't make myself eat there it was always so dirty and the people at the service windows were so habitually rude to their customers. So aparently I and many other customers decide to take our business elsewhere and they went out of business in Tracy. Funny, since then look at all the fast food places that have went into Tracy. Wonder why they are not having the same problem? Question, where is the closest Sizzler? They use to be everywhere in the Bay Area and I don't know where all of them went. Take a look at the little Compact Flouresent Lamp you screwed into your lamp to save some energy. Take a look at a lot of the consumer electronics you have in your house. Take a look at your children and grandchildren's toys. Take a look at a lot of your entertainment today. See what the name is that's on the side of the manufacturing label. Do you see what all of them have in common? Made in China. Get off the pitty party against Wal-Mart and start to smell the roses before you critize them. Whether you shop there or not you are buying from China. Golf? China. Camping? China. Running the port of LA? China. Get the point. All CFLs in the world are made in China. China is quickly becoming the largest consumer of hydrocarbon fuel in the world and guess what? They are exempt from the edits of the Kyoto accord.
