Yes, I recall it was Christy who said we need more police in Tracy. Now she is suddenly of the opinion that it would be "heavy handed" to have more police in Tracy.

I guess that she has flip-flopped? Is that coming from Garamendi?

It can't be coming from Ives camp. In this article the city council tells the managers to take a hard look at the budget. Everything except police and fire.

http://tracypress.com/content/view/14684/2242/

Nice to know that CG camp are a bunch of flip-floppers! So much for "change" and "transparency"!!!

Very sad!

Pleased to read, but not so sure as to whether Christy gave insights or opinions? Sounds like an opinion. And she never responded as to why she shifted her position. Perhaps if it were more clearly explained we could more easily make a determination as to whether it was merely an opinion or actual insight that we can use to make a decision. Hope to hear as to whether there is any logic behind the statement of being "heavy handed". Does sound "scary" but not sure exactly why? Is that "insight", or merely another scare tactic?

Makes it difficult to sort all this out.

Thanks!

Thanks Christy and others who gave more insights.

Since I only know of Ambercrombie being on the city council the time I was here, thought him pretty fair with both sides. Just liked the fact he has no ties to developers, so "favorism" will be more "balanced"? No ties to "special interest" group? Fair in his voting?

Perhaps having two retired police officers on board would have greater impact on reducing "crime"? - amy

To be more credible, Garamendi should hold another press conference and change her stance. By mentioning the cost of Ives election and not disclosing her own....

Yes, B-dub, lets have full disclosure on ALL SIDES...
http://tracypress.com/content/view/14659/2244/
How much did the Mark Connolly (Garamendi's husband) spend???
Just have a look at the link below to find out.

First it was we need more police. Now this....

Then it was Pombo spent too much on the last election. Now this...

Read this link to further understand the problem:

http://tracypress.com/content/view/14659/2244/

I'd like to know how much money was spent???

Another fine example of Garamendi's "transparent government"? Well, some think so!!!

I hope someone calls the FPP!

I understand that holding a post in city government is not the same as being back in the police department but his ethics should hold over to public office as well. Unless, that is, he's like most all politicians who speak out of the side of their mouths. - B-dub

Ubbo, I have to agree with you to some extent but police officers are, also, not supposed to accept gifts in exchange for special favors. Mr. Maciel has said that he's in favor to talks with Surland/ATK for that water park in exchange for building permits. To me, that is totally unacceptable and a gratuity. To be more credible, Mr. Maciel should hold another press conference and change his stance towards that project. So far, he does not have my vote. - B-dub

This is for Christy (the great source of never ending intelligence)What does it really matter if there are two ex-peace officers sitting on the city council? What do you intend to say by "heavy handed"? You indicate that Mr Abercombie is fair and shows concern for citizens, that is good. Why then would you oppose Mr Maciel? People in law enforcement are not always bad people. They don't rise to the rank of Captain or Chief because they are evil or bad. One would think it would be a benefit to have retired peace officers serving on the city council because they know how to handle unruly people (I recall the previous Mayor shuting up an unruly citizen), they possess a good working knowledge of the city and its police department, they know how to behave and they are accustomed to being public servants. Things don't always work out this nicely, but generally speaking thats how it looks. You seem to wobble back and forth on this subject. Can you explain this? Is there anything that you shed the light on to validate your opinion or are you just really just being an irritant? - Ubbo Coty

Uh, that was a little confusing. And what did you meant by the last sentence. What's wrong with democracy, why not let the voters decide if we need more police? Most people prefer democracy? Also, I recall that you were the one (Christy) who said we need more police in Tracy? Why the sudden shift? Might help us voters to know more. If we should shift too? Thanks!

Amy,

Mike was a captain, not the chief, and the chief controls the department performance. I don't think we need two former cops on the council, might get a little heavy handed. Abercrombie is doing a good job, he's moderate and fair. Maciel leans to Tucker and Ives side, as well as Larry Hite. Remember it was Tolbert who sealed the choice of Abercrombie, Tucker and Ives had given a few people the nod, including Maciel, but Tolbert said she only wanted Abercrombie. As a lawyer, and one who has seen a lot in life, she must have seen the fairness in Abercrombie. He shows concern for the citizens, not just the developers.

I appreciate your insights Amy, it's getting a little rough on here with the chameleon (one of a hundred names), refers to themself as "we" Too many head trips for me, pollutes the diaglogue with nonsense to confuse the reader and voter. "We" as in the royal we? Democracy will strike you down. - Christy

I know I read a line where Mike Maciel said that the crime WAS LOWER when he was a Captain in Tracy Police Department, obviously his method worked better? If anyone recalled that line/story, please provide the website. I want to vote for one who did better job in bringing it down and keep it low!

Thanks.

How well did the police department collect the revenue via tickets, fines, and so on, the enforcing the fines under Maciel? - amy

Does Mike Maciel support reducing speed racing and gangs? Yes sir! Reduction of crime? In Tracy? Yes, of course! Although, the TPD is not doing so bad, compared to other cities, there is always room for improvement.

I just wonder if the DTBIA would want Mike on the council, since, as a council member,he best understands the crime problems that face Tracy businesses.

Good to see there are lots of choices. You may not agree with me, but I support your right to express it.

;)

On porpoise. As a business owner I appreciate the predicament. But policies would be good here. People are stealing others monikers, left and right. Total mayhem. We're just doing our best. Keep up the good work, Bud.
