Residental Parking Lot 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
In my neighborhood the homes have 3 car garages which is one of the things that attracted me there 16 years ago. Cars parked all over the street take away from the look and feel of the neighborhood. For many years there was seldom a car parked on the street near my home. That has all changed.

Today across from me they have 6 vehicles parked out of the garage, next door to me another 6 vehicles parked outside of the garage, along side 5 vehicles parked outside of the garage. Some of these are boats, junk cars, cars for sale, jet ski trailers or just "extra" vehicles that never get driven. Around the corner there is a huge class "A" motor home parked on the front lawn and a boat parked out front. The neighborhood looks like a junkyard and it is only getting worse.

I can't imagine what kind of junk these people can have to fill a 3 car garage or why they wouldn't want to park inside. I have called the Fire Department to report unregistered vehicles with no action taken.

Guess it is time to rent my house out like others and move to the mountains.

Go through the municipal code and look up what applies then report these people and cite the portion of the code you feel is being violated. Keep it up until something gets done. If the people are renters find out who their landlord is and register your complaint with the landlord as well. There is no reason you should have to put up with a junkyard.

The code that is being violated is sometimes the 72 hour on street parking. TPD will come out and tag a car if it is not moved withing 72 hours. You can request parking enforcement to come out. As for stuff in the yard, there are anti-blight codes, I think those are code enforcement rather than the PD. There are more rules in this section, but this is the basic 72 hour rule.

3.08.510 Storage and parking of vehicles in public right-of-ways--Prohibition of certain vehicles--Removal.
(a) It shall be unlawful to place, or to have placed, keep, maintain, or store any vehicle, as defined in Sections 550 or 670 of the California Vehicle Code, whether, licensed or unlicensed, on any public street, alley, or right-of-way for a period exceeding seventy-two (72) hours.
