My husband commutes to Livermore and it has been great! We live on the far end and he just hops on 580, bypassing 205 altogether, which helps. There are a couple of ways to cross the Altamont, and that helps once you learn your way around. The nice thing we've enjoyed about Tracy (we are also transplants) is we can get to SF or Sacramento easily (for the most part).
And Tracy is doing a good job at trying to offer a lot to it's residents!

With the price of gas, wear, depreciation and maintenance the cost of the ticket on ACE is not bad. Forty-five minutes from Tracy to Pleasanton is good and if she is fortunate enough to have employment in the area of the bus route to BART no further expense. She may have to walk a few blocks or maybe after she gets to know other employees someone will meet her at the bus stop and give her a ride. This possibly have a small monetary fee.

When it costs between $45 and $50+ to fill a gas tank other ways cost less.

Just to add.
The time on the train is not wasted. You can read, nap visit with other riders, knit, chrochet.

Tracy is the halfway point for us. I will be working in Modesto and she will either be working in Pleasanton or Dublin. Tracy is pretty much our best option to split the commute between the two of us.
