Commute times? 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 2
My family and I are moving to the Tracy area at the end of August for my work. My wife is thinking about working in Pleasanton with her current employer. What is the average commute time from Tracy to Pleasanton at about 8 AM and from Pleasanton to Tracy at about 5 PM? If the commute takes too much time she is considering taking the train. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Figure 45-50 minutes each way in rush hour traffic.

It takes me about 1:10 to/from Fremont around the same time.

Post edited by: newtotracy, at: 2007/05/19 01:23

Can this be right? It appears that while the ACE train takes only 8 minutes from Tracy to Pleasanton, the fare is either $8.50RT per day or $121 a month.

When my husband worked in Hayward it took about 45 minutes to get to Hayward. Pleasanton was about 25-30 minutes. The was not during the height of commute time though since he went to work in the afternoon. 8am is pasr rhe worst of the commute time but their is still very heavy traffic then. I still think that 45 minutes at that time would be a reasonable estimate. Better to overestimate and have plenty of time.

Thanks for the responses. We were told by someone here in LA that it would take an hour to an hour and a half one way. She didn't want to be on the road that long each day and I dont't blame her.

I commuted to Pleasanton from Tracy for years. Travel time depends wildly on what time you need to be at work. I was fortunate enough to work for a company that had a flex-time policy. Leaving before 7 AM or after 8:30 AM got me to work in 45 minutes. Leaving at 7:30 bumped the commute time up to over an hour.

I was allowed a start time as late as 10:30 AM. Leaving the house at 9:50 AM got me to work in 35 minutes.

For the ACE train, you will also need to use the bus system, which can be an aditional cost. However, depending on where you work, many companies offer a transit subsidy. My former employer was located in the Hacienda Business Park and offered a transit subsidy (50% of cost), as well as the free monthly bus passes Hacienda Business Park provides to commuters who work within the Park.
