imo, it is best to leave the opinion section threads as is, let them live in that day's 'paper'. We have these forums for longer running items. I think a page or links on an existing page to the "most viewed", weekly, monthly and daily would be useful for referring back to those one or two hot items that come up.

Jim, even that would be great. as i mentioned in the first post, a "my threads" or "my previous posts" ability would be great. many websites i visit, say IMDB, easily allow you to locate threads you have posted on. i understand that IMDB is a huge website, therefore more resources are available to them, so i am not losing any sleep over this.

now, figuring out where the opinion section fits into all of this...i know the two (opinion, forum) are not related, so i can see where the trouble may be.

eieio: I am one of the 'creative staff/engineers' that created the website as it is today. The Tracy Press is not a completely custom website. Its Content Management System, while customized heavily, is not built 100% by us. It uses the Open Source CMS Joomla! and multiple extensions. This makes doing the things you suggested not as easy as it sounds.

As Blake mentioned, the article comments and forum are two separate entities, that are not connected to each other. A connection to the two is not that easy to create either. It would involve some heavy back-end coding, which we do not have the resources to complete.

In fact, the TP does not have it's own 'web team' as it seems you think. I work for SolutionsIC, a web development / design firm, the company 'behind' the website.

And to address a few other issues mentioned.

Internet Explorer: we are aware of the forum not showing correctly on the site and hope to have it corrected by the end of this week, or beginning of next.

Login: The login is required for security and privacy measures. Unfortunately allowing access to the forum without being logged in allows robots to post spam to the forum. This spam, as I'm sure all of you are aware, can often times be very vulgar / rude / annoying. There are also some security issues with open access to the forum, with hacking attempts.

Previous Posts: You can subscribe to any forum thread by clicking on the 'Subscribe' link in the bottom left corner of a thread. It has a star to the left of it. Than you can few any subscribed forum threads by navigating to your profile, which is located in the toolbar above the forum.

Hopefully that answers some of the questions everyone has! If there are more, that are unrelated to the comments questions, please open a new forum thread regarding them. That way we can keep everything organized well.

Regards,
