Weekly 'coffee chats' with our police officers? Is this really fixing our obvious and steadily growing problem? Just read the crime section of this paper. It's grown just as fast and as big as our population has. What a coincidence.

The problem is that our police department has not. We do not have enough officers for the amount of citizens in Tracy. It's no wonder gang activity and the like are on the rise and rising faster everyday. There is not enough police presence to deter it. The officers we have do a great job, but we obviously need more.

So while I'm sure it's nice to sit, sip a cup of hot java, and 'chat' about these issues-isn't it more important to get more officers on our streets protecting our town?

The Cops and Caffeine chats aren't weekly. The next one is not until March 8th. It is not just the cops you meet with but also code enforcement. Any communication with the cops is great if you have a question and since so many of us are unhappy about what is happening around Tracy you can get some questions answered this way.

I think it is a great idea. It is a no pressure way to open up a dialog between the police officers and those citizens who are concerned about Tracy. I think since you are obviously concerned about Tracy you should try to go to the next one in March and let them know your concerns.
