For now JimF, I will reiterate,"If everyone put out signs what a mess it would be. Tripping all over signs on the sidewalks but you are more important aren't you then your neighboring business person.

Agreed - a lot of downtown looks shoddy with all the junk in the windows. The shopowners want to be part of the community, but they end up looking like run-down junk shops.

And back to the sidewalk signs - they are NOT LEGAL in Tracy, EXCEPT for downtown, which was granted an exception (why is another issue).

I personally had a lot of difficulty getting around two fallen signs that ALWAYS are there, IN THE CROSSWALK, and BLOCKING the HANDICAP ramp - at the McDonalds on 11th entering the SaveMart area.

Those are annoying. You can't get to the crosswalk button, you can ride a bike safely, and if you were in a wheelchair you'd have to get up and over the grass.

Someone, please, ENFORCE THE CODE.

The problem with the signs being 'OK' to put up in the downtown area is confusing to everyone else that is not in the D.T. area. The downtown signs get blown over and in the way too and they are ugly.

It is the lesser priority for enforcing the codes on signs and grocery carts. The DA will not prosecute so these people always get away with it. I'd like to pile them all in one area where they would be noticed. Maybe there would be a problem then. Just because the signs and grocery carts are spread all over town it seems less invasive.

Hello Jim F

And very much thanks for a mighty fine offer. Not quite sure what all our mutual interests are other than pointing out what appears to be a kinda queer and funny contradiction--no harm no foul. The merits of your signs are not a battle for I as it shall be left to you and maybenot to hash out. The AMAZN AZZN was more caught up in incongruity of fighting crime yet propogating stealing, which lead to an uproarious laugh for both us. Although have to admit now that the proverbial cats is outta the hats; wus up with that??

As it were, the gurlfriend and I chose to have fish tacos on this particular evening because of--GET THIS--a sign

So, sumpthin you wrote kinda touched me:

"This is a riot, I didn't realize so many knew so much about me. I guess all publicity is good publicity."

Friend, as a marketing professional let me convey to yus in NO uncertain terms more people than you will ever know or think know about you AND there is such a thing as bad buplicity, which you are doing very well at it. You need to put yerself and yer business in best possible lights at all times, which includes subordinating some of your thoughts and needs to be heard (The AMAZN AZZN is laughing her beautiful arse off at me and that last comment )

Good luck with the pitza joynt.

IMHO

Well there you go about mutual interests. We seem to have more than one.

I do not see anything I have done or said as propagating stealing at all, my initial comment was meant as a lighthearted response. I certainly don't advocate breaking laws. Chris Smith brought up good points about public vs. private property, and ways to facilitate removal of illegal signs posted around our fine city. I certainly don't want to pick a fight, and believe me you, I have subordinated. I think I am not taking a real controversial stance by saying these ugly little signs should be removed.

As chairman of Tracy Crime Stoppers, I am trying to help an all-volunteer organization raise funds to help the PD pay rewards which help catch felons loose on our streets. We need help from concerned citizens.
Helping get rid of bad guys loose on the streets, and helping to keep the streets free of ugly little signs both have the goal of making our city a nicer place to live.

As a marketing professional, I am sure that I could benefit from your wisdom in many ways. Stop by and say hi some time.
