dissension 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
There seems to be so much “dissension” today that there is a core of anti-Americanism in our midsts under the guise of patriotism which is actually strung along by an intolerant left. The most unfortunate part of the whole mix is that a majority of the “movement” is a fad brought forth by commercialism and movie stars.

There seems to be a consistent typical in dictatorial and communist oppression throughout modern political history. The call for the uprising of the masses, distortion of the truth, dismiss the threat and you have a clear path for eventual one-sided takeover of absolute power. One need look further than Venezuela's beloved leader Chavez who has now turned into a dictator. Free speech is no longer allowed under their “democratic” left government.

Today there appears to be a trend towards a polarized left which is turning anti-American. A recent example of the trend is an on-line comment that, in effect, said showing respect for the American flag on Independence Day is “brain washing.” (commentary on www.TracyPress.com editorial detailing how to show respect for the American flag on the 4th of July) Well it seems as if what was constructive dissension has now turned anti-American. One need to look no further than some of the on-line commentaries to see the attempted sell-out of Americanism and our truly free society.

Opposing political views which meet close to the center balance each other. However, it seems for some, if you have any right leanings then you are a war monger or baby killer who needs to be shut up and shut down. You hear the far left calling for fair balance in one breath and opposing views as oppressive and un-American in the other breath—the exception justified only if it is in-line with the far-left. It appears as if the far-left is against intellectual and political diversity selling the idea as a new fad—a must have i-political view that comes with your choice of matching accouterments.

The Republican and Democratic parties offer a lot to the American society and there should be a balance between the two with constructive dialog between the politician and voter.

Hi Jamest

I see many flaws in your logic but also see the reason for it. You obviously are only getting your news from the TV maybe a newspaper. There is a lot of distortions and out right lies coming from these news corporations.
Its time to wake up and research instead of watching baseball. Your rights are being stripped and your going along with the program which actually is very unpatriotic, again research these documentaries. Read the constitution and refresh yourself with the rights you used to have.

If you are not shocked and angered by these you are hopeless as an American Patriot trying to stand up for what is right.

There might still be hope

In response to your accusation that I only receive “news from the TV maybe a newspaper”, my sources are many years of study in international politics—12 to be precise. Additionally, I have spent many years living in and studying the Middle East.

Other than youtube or some other home grown video's that any freshman in collage can throw together on their home PC, can you cite exactly which of my rights I no longer have?

Despite the political theatrics, I am proud to be part of a nation that allows the political freedom to question weather or not our rights are being honored—outside of our borders there are those far less fortunate. We will see a lot of political rhetoric (and theatrics) as the elections in 2008 draw nearer.

Here are a few of our rights that have been suspended.

Right to free speech

At the last republican convention in New York if you had a shirt proclaiming your support for bush you were safe. If you had a shirt proclaiming your dissent of the president you were removed or arrested.

Right to assembly.

Again we have now free speech zones that you can only protest in confined areas away from press and the event in which you are protesting, essentially making your protest not heard.

Right to lawful day in court. Habeas Corpus.

Has been slaughtered with the passing of the Patriot Act. If you are detained and received a enemy combatant label you can be held without a day in court with a judge and jury and without the accuser even present.

If you have been studying Middle East then you surely are aware of the Coupe that are CIA organized to remove Irans presidnet in 1953 A democratically eleceted man by his people to install our own pro western president the Shaw. Which the People of Iran were outraged and took our hostages. Its called blowback the effect of unlawful measures on people that will indeed increase the chance of retaliation.
That is a direct study of the CIA's findings.
Our unwavering support of Israel is the one reason the Muslims are upset with America. Not because we are rich or because we are free. This thought process is a clear propaganda tool to gain support for a war on terror which will never end. I for one am not comfortable knowing my sons and grandsons and great grandsons will continue to fight and die for a unjust illegal declaration of this ridiculous war.

Also I find it down right appalling that you refer to college kids with a pc as unworthy Americans to bring forth illegal activities in a corrupt government. Understand our younger generation are indeed a lot more in touch with world affairs than the middle aged man that is removed from the reality of sins that are being committed in the name of terror. Because of debt, ball games and no access to real news.
Its time to wake up.
Your hannity,Oreilly type tactics are nauseating.

First, let me address your assertion that I "refer to college kids with a pc as unworthy Americans to bring forth illegal activities in a corrupt government." Please read my post and you will find that I did not refer college students as "...unworthy Americans." I actually enjoy thoughtful and engaging discussions on current affairs with the academia and students alike. So your assertion is way off base.

Second, show me real proof that you do not have the right to free speech. What you post in here would get you killed in other countries. You very post proves that you indeed have the right to free speech.

Third, your reference to me as "hannity,Oreilly type tactics" is quite sophomoric. I am stating my opinion--that is free speech guaranteed to me by the U.S. Constitution.

Lastly, most in this forum participate in constructive dialog--not name calling. However, I think that you have proved my point in the original post quite well.

Post edited by: JamesT, at: 2007/07/23 00:53
