Nouri al-Maliki has made a very strong point when he calls for “American officials who consider Iraq as if it were one of their villages, for example Hillary Clinton and Carl Levin. They should come to their senses," as should all America come to its senses. We are not the police of the world.
Had George Bush paid attention to Viet Nam he would have known his invasion and occupation would be another Viet Nam, Most GI’s who fought there could see it. This is not hindsight as I said this on day one. Now that we are in their country, based on George’s war and it was based on a lie just like Lyndon Johnson’s Turner Joy lie, we are stuck with it. The real question is What Do We Do Now? The only solution that is reasonable is withdrawal. That, my friends, is the thought for the day. Do it now or do it later. One consideration is to back our troops to safe and isolated positions from which they can counter only the very worst of the violence that will inevitably occur and allow the country to find its own equilibrium. It will anyway, but at least we may be able to provide humanitarian aide, medical support, and some order while saving American lives and just maybe some of our badly tarnished honor.
