Wait, let's start where Concerned Parents left off.
"7:49 p.m.: A caller said someone keeps shooting birds near Taco Bell, 915 S. Tracy Blvd. The called said she saw a dead bird in front of the fast food joint’s front doors recently."

Tracy Press reporter uses the word "contiguous" after reading its definition in a dictionary.

Don't apologize to me. You haven't done anything directly to me. For a cop I would think you'd have some morals.

And if you don't, oh well. Maybe you'll have a gun waved in your face then you can experience it first hand. Then you can't b___h about it.

...
written by maybenotdumBcommenT , July 25, 2008
Actually Concerned parents, no I don't.
I think my question would be, what happened to the driver. Is he OK?
Like I told bla, press on with your jokes. Wait until you have an incident happen to you and it is in the paper. In fact, let me know and I will come up with some good jokes.
Do you think the fire fighters had to use the jaws of life to get the driver out. Could be he was paralyzed. Now he can learn to play basket ball in a wheel chair a soon as he's feeling better

written by maybenotdumBcommenT , July 25, 2008
Have any of you had a family or friend in a car accident? Well I have, 2. I remember sitting in the room where thy put families to wait so that when they come to tell you they died you won't upset the other people when you are screaming and crying from the shock.
Shame on you all.

MNDC-see- the story did not mention a driver.... just that a car rammed a tree... maybe I'm an easy laugh but that is funny to me.

"A man on the 100 block of Lahola Court was cleaning his gun and accidentally shot himself in the foot. The gun was a .40-caliber handgun, and the shooter immediately ran for some alcohol while his son yelled at him, according to the report."
I think the owner of his handgun should take a class on handgun safety. Maybe he forgot that you always handle a gun as if it's loaded. Here's the 3 safety tips for handguns.
1. Finger off the trigger.
2. Finger off the trigger.
3. Finger off the trigger.
I'll bet that swig of tequila was good though.

amy,
I think Concerned Parents and myself are trying really hard not to be too serious in our funny comments. It's just a way to let off a little stress without, like you said, being insensitive. It's really easy to play off of the way the writer posts these incidents. Sometimes just one word will change the whole outlook.
I did read in another Police Blotter blog that maybenotdumBcommenT chastised Concerned Parents for his/her comment. Just want to let maybenotdumBcommenT know that we're not serious in our posts.

#1 rule in gun safety. You treat all guns as if they are loaded before you start to handle them.
#2. The first thing you do when you pick up a gun or have it handed to you by someone else, you treat it as loaded until you visually inspect it and ensure it is loaded.
#3. Regardless if you know it's unloaded, you treat all guns as if they are loaded.
If you follow these very basic and simple rules you will never get in trouble with a gun accidentally discharging and end up "Shooting yourself in the foot."
Folks, guns in and of themselves are not dangerous. A gun laying on the table, untouched by human hands is nothing more than a hunk of metal that may contain chemicals. It's not going to point itself at your foot and blow a nice hole in it unless you don't disipline yourselves to handle guns safely.
I know this gentleman has probably learned his lesson but unfortunately he learned it the hard way. Learn from his lesson and don't stupedly do it the way he did.
Oh, and we all do stupid things from time to time and I hope he recovers quickly. Look on the bright side, at least he didn't blow his head off or kill someone else. He got lucky this time.

Something happened in one of these logs that happened on my street on Thursday. Unfortunately you all don't know that back story. If you did you would probably be upset if this stuff was happening to you, so I don't think your snappy little comments are funny, no.
ftud, you were a cop, you should know there is more to these one liners then meets the eye.
It sounds as if some of them are ridiculous but I know one here isn't and I suspect if you keep on going down the line you will get a jolly good laugh at someone else's expense. Just because they don't look serious doesn't mean they aren't to these people. Laugh on you all, I won't be a part of it.
...
written by bla , July 24, 2008
The written posts are a nice change from all the negative comments, thanks for the laugh. There is nothing wrong with making light of a situation as long as that person wasn't seriously hurt or the person blogging is purposely being vindictive. My father accidently shot his leg cleaning a rifle when he was 16 and back then they could not save it. As a child he had told me a bear ate it... I did not live with my real father and it wasn't until my teens that I found out what really happened. He and I got a good laugh out of it. Somehow a little humor lightened the situation. I look forward to your next bit of wit, thanks again...
...
written by maybenotdumBcommenT , July 24, 2008
bla, I'm sure it was really funny when your father lost his leg at the time. Was his nickname Gimpy or Black Bart. Was he a pirate on Halloween. At 16 that was probably traumatic. Of course it's funny now, thats easy, because he's gotten use to it. Good for you.
...
written by bla , July 25, 2008
Yeah he thought it hilarious at the time. You never get use to it you just have to deal with it. That remark was uncalled for. Look at it this way. These police logs give very little detail and no names. You are correct is stating we do not know the situation so why get so upset if someone wants to use their imagination and extend the event. If your neighborhood story was headline and was a heartbreaking story I believe ftud would not make light of it. At least I have never read that in his comments. I think in todays hard times you need a sense of humor. You have a right to your opinion but you don't have to get nasty about it!
...
written by maybenotdumBcommenT , July 25, 2008
What about the families you all are making fun of. That seems nasty to them. That was the point I was making. Yes, my story made headline news and now we are dealing with the after affects. The police logs are meant to be short so you can see they are working. They don't put all of the incidents in. I sure wish I could tell you my story. If it comes out again , I'll say, this is it. I apologize for my nasty comments. It was in bad taste but, and I mean right at this moment my neighborhood is under siege by a few punks and we are overly sensitive even when the AT&T guy shows up, even tho we are expecting him. The worst is that an innocent pet has been hurt and to the tune of 500 bucks. Bashed in car windows, messed up mail boxes. Driving on our lawns. They are jerks and we are trying to do something about it. We feel we are hostages in our own neighborhood so now we have the police helping us.
It could have been a totally different story if my encounter with the police had not been in here this very day. It just made me think of the story behind the scene. Grant it, some seem completely ridiculous.
Press on if you still feel the need to make jokes. I just wanted to put in my 35 cents. BTW, my father also had his leg amputated.
...
written by bla , July 25, 2008
I am sorry for the situation you are in. I have experienced the same thing several years back. It took over two years to remedy the problem. Hopefully yours won't take that long. As for the jokes I still see no problem with the previous comments and I look forward to reading something funny verses all the depressing news when I open the newspaper or turn on the TV.

mexican4life, I think some people get off on other peoples hurt like what you mentioned about the family that lost everyone in the canal. personally I felt sick and their loss and of course no one outwardly made fun of it, but last check I didn't see any, "I'm so sorry for your Families loss" either. I believe the jokes were based on the case of the calls, not actual suffering of the people. I don't find it insensitive. You may, though. My perception is different to keep us level headed in our profession. Otherwise there wouldn't be any nurses. It is stressful enough and we find the relief in joking about the "cases".

I don't see jokes in the article covering crime, stabbings and so on, just the "wording" of the calls made room for jokes just on the "Police log" or list of calls.
Just my opinion.
PS I saw in the article, "Red, White and BBQ" that you mentioned that you were being ridiculed on the Police Log..... now really??
Others would have to chime in, just stated my opinion of what I see going on in this section.

Justin,
I would describe a "possible shooting" like this. The police get a report of loud "bangs" which sound like gunshots. Police arrive and can find no evidence, ie: empty casings, gunshot damage, etc. The loud bangs could have been M-80's or something similiar. Thus you have a "possible shooting" when you can't confirm or deny it has happened.

I never said it was a police matter mndc. It was you who criticized me when you said something to the effect "being a cop, where are your morals". This was written by you in another blog. I'm only telling you that this is the way most "cops" handle the stress of the job. Almost ALL cops have a warped sense of humor. I used the word warped to justify your belief that we're somehow insensitive. If my humor isn't to your liking you can comment however you please, it won't affect me in any way.
In regards to your snide comment about having sweet dreams....I do sleep fairly well, but I occasionally have dreams/nightmares of seeing deceased persons who committed suicide, children shot in the head, battered spouses, abused children, deceased drivers of vehicle collisions, and victims of elder abuse. I've helped those who needed help, comforted those who needed comforting, and arrested those who pray on the weak. So why don't you give me a break and lighten up.

Just thinking about one case, where the patient lost lower part of his face due to car accident, missing a jaw and cheek bone. Had to be tube fed.... long and slow recovery, his healing was an inspiration to us, showed us his courage, he is fine now, doing great, used his rib and part of his hip bone to reconstruct his face. These are the thoughts that kept popping up in my head, just like PTS for us nurses.
We walk away feeling inspired, dispirited, discouraged, sad at a loss of life, disheartened after taking so much verbal abuse from demanding patients, feeling the joy at the success of healing. Now a play on words, or puns are not so bad? Gotta dump the emotional baggage that follows us nurses, doctors, cops and so on... home. Turn on the TV, doom and gloom... ugh.

Like every law enforcement agency there are going to be good, mediocre, and bad cops. What I've seen of TPD leads me to believe that this agency falls more into the category between good and mediocre. I have had experience with TPD where they would not take a report for a serious crime. They hem and hawed to me about how they didn't think the crime would be carried through. WTF? So now they're clairvoyant? At the very least a information only report should have been written, the Subject/ should have been contacted for statement, and all of this would have been a 3 pager. Not much to write for the first 2 pages, the 3rd page would have been a narrative. Contact with the SJ/ could have been done via cell phone. The entire report would have taken 30 mins to write. A report of this nature would have been a CYA (cover you *ss) report by the officer in the event the crime occurred later. Tracy PD kisses off these reports and I'd like to know why? Is it through their FTO training or some directive handed down by command staff to lessen the amount of paperwork. I am not the only one who has had negative contact with TPD. Since you seem to be so close to them, maybe that's why you stick up for them. To me, if they're not taking paper then they should be out combatting other issues like...there should not be any gangs in Tracy, grafitti should be erradicated permanently, or theft should be nada in this city. Just what are they doing? I'd like to support our local police but they, in turn, also have to support the residents of this city. At this time I don't think they're accomplishing that.

who pulled a gun on him and demanded that he drive them to a hardware store.
if this ever happens, just crash into another car at an intersection, and get out of the car with the keys...there will be many eye witnesses..and the Cops will be called. the crooks will run and there will be many people who can follow them untill the poliece catch up and then they will be charged with Felony Kiddnapping with a Gun enhancement thats about 20 years.

Steve,
Great advice but not many people will think that fast to make it happen. One of the suspects was reported to be following in another car. All the other one would have to do is get into the other car and take off. Most witnesses will not remember enough information to give police. It is a great idea though and hopefully people reading these blogs will remember what you said and put it into action IF this ever happens to them.

Maybe we should all get our cars to start crashing by themselves when they are in danger.

MNDC,
Be real now. If you're taken hostage and you're the one driving you don't have to literally crash into another car, you can just run your car up over a curb and blow out a tire.
But wait, let's have a little fun.
"Maybe we should all get our cars to start crashing by themselves when they are in danger."
MNDC suggests that we all start our cars, put them in "drive" (1st gear if yours is manual) and let them crash by themselves. At least they'll be sleeping alone.
Get it...."crash by themselves"?

" just crash into another car" submitted by Steve Reshakis
MNDC,
When I said to you "you don't have to literally crash into another car" it was a response to what Steve Reshakis said. I was trying to reiterate to you that you do not have to crash into another car. Oh forget it, I don't thing you're going to understand this either.

ftud, really can't deny that it is addressed to me now can you. Go ahead and forget it. Be my guest because you and all of the others who have made fun these last few days will tire of it and I will defend myself as long as I know I'm right. When I'm not I admit it to. amy, if you are as young as has been eluded you will feel like a j__ka** years from now if you are still a nurse. You are going to wonder why you said such stupid things. ftud is angry because he's crippled, I don't know why you are acting so immature. Concerned Parents, man I hope you don't really have kids. If they ever knew you were making fun of these people what will you say. Grant it, some are not real but some are implicated with these logs.ftud, very nice of you to tell everyone what to do if they see the idiots that harmed the 82 year old. Like we don't know. Trying to redeem yourself. Good job. Going in the right direction.
