Departments areunderstaffed. If anyone doubts it, sign up for a ride-along with any agency and you'll be able to see how many times a single call can tie up a shift, and how often paperwork, processing a prisoner, and doing all the things that the public doesn't generally see can impact things on a given day.

I disagree that Missy's biased. I think she's just trying to illustrate the realities of what goes on out there.

I think if 12 officers have time to show up for a simple knife call (see The Shamrock) Maybe somebody should deligate these officers time a little better. It might make it easier for them to do their reports, processing, etc...

Depends on what the knife call was. If there were 12 officers responding, it sounds like it wasn't that simple. He/she was probably brandishing and/or threatening other people. Something like that can escalate into something worse, so strength in numbers definitely applies.

It's much better than responding one officer and having him/her facing a potential deadly force situation alone.

The police were more protective due to what happened at the bowl. Don't complain, it's what you want, more police.

First of all- the parents who bought BB guns for their kids should be held accountable.....

I am glad that someone points to neighborhood watch programs as PART of the solution. We all have to watch out for each other and for ourselves and not wait for the government to do it for us. I am lucky to live in an area that is known for having multiple policemen and former policemen living here. We don't see a lot of action as a result.

I hate to tell you this Justin but you are partially wrong. We have quality Police. They are WAY understaffed. In the academy they learn the ideal ratio of police to citizens is 1 to every 2000. Well we won't get the ideal amount and we don't have enough police at any one shift any time. Yes I did my homework and I now know. It isn't looking good, we need more police and if we want more we have to pay for it.

Dave H. is right. 1 or 3 bucks a year from each citizen could hire 2 more police at best.
