The California Cougars Girls U19 team its fourth tournament of the year at the 2010 Ajax United Fall Invitational Sept. 25 and 26 in Ripon. The Cougars opened up with a 9-0 win over Ajax United Select 92G. Jessica Cervantes, Kylie Gacer and Joanna Ortiz had two goals each and Megan Mata, Valeria Ordaz and Alexis Poppoff had one goal each. Mata had three assists, Ortiz had two assists and Gacer, Poppoff and Regan Porteous each had an assist. Goalkeeper Brianna Murawski posted the shutout.
In the second game, the Cougars beat FC Azzurri 4-0. Mata led the way with two goals and Cervantes and Poppoff added a goal each. Mata, Ortiz and Alyssa Strope had the assists. Goalkeeper Brianna Murawski posted her second shutout of the day behind the defense of Karly Dunning, Sydnee Koscielecki, Sarah Manseau, Strope and Stephanie Vanni.
In the semifinal game, the Cougars defeated the Butte United Bobcats 4-1. Cervantes, Koscielecki, Mata and Jasmine Schultz had one goal each. Cervantes, Jamie Flores and Ortiz had one assist each.
In the final, the Cougars beat the ACC Mavericks 7-1. Cervantes and Poppoff led the way with two goals each. Ortiz, Porteous and Vanni added a goal each. Mata had four assists in the final and Cervantes, Ortiz and Schultz each had assists.
The Cougars amassed 24 goals for the weekend and gave up just two. The Cougars will continue league and tournament play through October before competing in the 2010 San Diego Surf College Cup Thanksgiving weekend in San Diego.
U16 Cougars at Ajax United tournament
The California Cougars Girls U16 team finished 0-2-1 at the Ajax Fall Invitational Sept. 25 and 26 in Ripon. The Cougars opened up with a 1-0 loss to Cap FC United 93 U17. In their second game against Elk Grove Everton U16, the Cougars opened up a 1-0 lead on Lana Pineo’s 30-yard strike. With 15 minutes left Everton tied the game and then won it 2-1 with a goal in the last 2 minutes. In their third game, the Cougars tied the Greenhaven Panthers 2-2. Fiona Kennedy and Pineo scored a goal each and Grace Cabri and Kristina Miles had the assists. Goalkeeper Jasmine Ahloo had an outstanding tournament behind the strong defensive play of Cabri, Katia Gaytan, Taylor Long, Miles, Dianna Murillo and Elizabeth Wuellner.
The Cougars continue NorCal Premier League play this weekend in Sacramento against Placer United.
U16 Cougars 3, Inter Rage 0
The California Cougars Girls U16 team defeated Inter Rage Academy 3-0 Sept. 18 in Elk Grove. Lauren Frizzi, Fiona Kennedy, and Lana Pineo scored the Cougars goals and Grace Cabri and Jessica Hufford had one assist each. Goalkeeper Jasmine Ahloo posted the shutout behind the strong defensive play of Cabri, Katia Gaytan, Taylor Long, Kristina Miles, Dianna Murillo, and Elizabeth Wuellner.
Cal Odyssey 2, U19 Cougars 1
The California Cougars Girls u19 team fell 2-1 to Cal Odyssey Sept. 18 in Stockton. The Cougars opened up a 1-0 halftime lead on a Megan Mata goal. Jessica Cervantes had the lone assist. Odyssey fought back with two goals in the final 20 minutes to clinch the win.
